Overview

TV shopping demands products that are unique, have demonstrable features and benefits, can not to be found in Store or online and finally are protectable. The founder of the company gave an excellent description of what sells well on TV, typically cooking products, sets of knives, fitness equipment. We also had a very specific target demographic.
During creative session with the client the problem of cooking steak at home became an opportunity worth solving.

Create a new TV shopping concept, that is unique, protectable and excites the consumer.

The solution -

The Innovation came in two parts firstly the frying pan with its built-in temperature display using very old technology. Secondly a simple steak pod that allow the user to programme how they liked a given meat cooked.

Key insights

Create a frying pan that would work with all types of heat sources with a way of controlling the heat of the pan. Communicate to user how long to cook a specific type of meat, and when to turn it and how long to rest for.

Selling on TV gives the designer the chance to introduce a brand-new product to an audience by demonstration. The show last between 15 and 30 minutes, so we can explain why this new product is worth buying.

As with all new product development the innovation comes from understanding a problem, we spent time with a professional chef understanding how to cook different types of meats, from these insights we could breakdown the problem and find a new solution.
